Mueller Greenways and Trails
The 600-acre Mueller development on Austin's east side used to be a close-but-crowded airport, serving the whole Austin area. Plans were made to build another airport in Manor and decommission the Mueller airport, but the Air Force shut down Bergstrom Air Force Base in Austin's south east corner and made it available to the city to serve as the new international airport.
The Mueller Airport is in the process of being redeveloped into a green, sustainable development at the corner of 51st and I-35. Central to the neighborhood plan is a system of parks, lakes, and trails circling the development. These trails are organized into greenways that connect throughout the development into a system of about five miles of trails. The main park is Lake Park, with plenty of parking. The trails are crushed granite paths with some concrete, very suitable to jogging or walking the dog.
Maps to each of the park areas are on the Mueller web page at http://www.muelleraustin.com/green/parks.php
