Baltimore

What are some great weekend getaways?:

Anywhere on the Eastern Shore is a great relaxing getaway from Baltimore. The great Northeast suburban sprawl hasn't jumped the Chesapeake yet - expect quiet country roads, lots of open water, and a very relaxing area.

From Baltimore, you can drive out I-270 and I-68 to the far western tip of Maryland, Garrett County, by Deep Creek Lake. This is well into the Allegheny mountains. Most of the recreation around here revolves around the lake, but there is also a downhill ski slope and lots of hiking and mountain biking trails.

Running
When is the major marathon?:
The Baltimore marathon is in the middle of May. If you are looking for a smaller, more low-key run that is mostly off pavement and away from traffic, the North Central Trail Marathon is always the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend.
Running Races:

Baltimore Marathon

The Under Armour Baltimore marathon is Baltimore's biggest marathon, and it has become a big success.

The race starts and finishes at Camden Yards, the Baltimore Orioles' stadium. The course goes by the Inner Harbor, Fells Point, and Federal Hill. It also goes through Clifton Park and Druid Hill Park and circles Lake Montebello.

For a extra incentive, do the Frederick Marathon in early May along with the Baltimore marathon and get a special "Maryland Double" medal.
